The 1930s was a constellation of smokey speakeasies & celebrity nightclubs, awash in bootleg liquor, and ruled by New York’s queen of the night, Texas Guinan. 300 was hers and Texas reeled in the customers making the club a prime target of prohibition enforcement in the city. 300 was raided and ‘padlocked’ so often that she wore a necklace of padlocks as her trademark.
